Bacton Wood: a wood since Saxon times. It extends to 280 acres (that is four fifths the size of Hyde Park in London) and has 30+ species of tree. A herd of deer live there. Some of them occasionally stray into our garden.

It is a couple of miles down the road from the Apple House. You can walk to it via public footpaths and quiet lanes, but there is also plenty of parking space at the woods. Cycling in the woods is permitted. There are marked walks in the woods.
